RYZE vs Four Sigmatic comes down to what you want in the cup. RYZE Mushroom Coffee is a six-mushroom instant blend (2,000 mg per serving) with about 50 mg of caffeine and a lower subscription price. Four Sigmatic Original is a five-mushroom instant coffee, also about 50 mg of caffeine, with added B12 and probiotics.
We haven’t run a hands-on trial of either product. This comparison is based on each brand’s published labels, product pages, help-center articles and public records, all checked on October 21, 2026. Prices and formulas change, so confirm on the brand site before you buy.
Quick verdict
- Pick RYZE if you want the larger listed mushroom blend (2,000 mg), a six-species mix that includes shiitake and king trumpet, and the lower per-cup price on a subscription.
- Pick Four Sigmatic if you care most about a brand that names its extracts as fruiting-body (not mycelium), if you want B12 and a probiotic in the same scoop, or if you’d rather brew ground coffee. Four Sigmatic also sells regular-caffeine ground and whole-bean blends.
- Either way: both are coffee drinks first. Neither brand publishes a per-mushroom dose on the product pages we read, so you can’t compare species-by-species amounts.

Ingredients and mushroom doses side by side
RYZE says each serving of its Medium Roast holds 2,000 mg of its SUPER6 mushroom blend. Its current nutrition label lists organic instant coffee, the six mushrooms above and an organic prebiotic blend of acacia, inulin and tapioca fiber. The label shows 20 calories, 5 g of carbohydrate (2 g of fiber) and 0 g of sugar per serving.
Four Sigmatic’s reformulated Original Mushroom Coffee combines organic Arabica instant coffee with lion’s mane, chaga, cordyceps, reishi and turkey tail. The brand says its lion’s mane, reishi and turkey tail are log-grown fruiting-body extracts, its chaga is wildcrafted, and it uses “no mycelium or filler grains.” The bag also adds vitamin B12, a heat-resistant probiotic (500 million CFU of Bacillus subtilis DE111) and organic coconut milk powder for a creamier cup. Four Sigmatic’s Amazon listing gives the total mushroom blend as 1,500 mg per serving.
What’s missing from both: a per-species dose. A blend total tells you how much mushroom material is in the scoop, but not how much lion’s mane versus reishi you’re getting. If that detail matters to you, our guide to the best mushroom supplements explains how to read a mushroom label, including fruiting body vs mycelium and why extract ratios matter.
Caffeine per cup
This is closer than most people expect. RYZE’s Medium Roast label, effective September 22, 2026, lists about 50 mg of caffeine per serving. Older RYZE pages still say 48 mg. RYZE’s Dark Roast is much stronger, at about 90 mg per serving.
Four Sigmatic Original lists “around 50mg” per cup and calls itself half-caf. If you want a full-strength mushroom coffee, Four Sigmatic’s Focus ground coffee (with lion’s mane) lists about 150 mg per 12 oz cup.
For context, the FDA cites 400 mg a day as an amount not generally associated with negative effects for most healthy adults. A 50 mg cup leaves plenty of room, but tea, soda and energy drinks count toward the total.
Energy drinks can add up fast; our G FUEL buyer’s guide lists caffeine per serving for its tubs, stick packs and cans.

Taste and how to make it
Both are instant, so there’s no brewer involved:
- RYZE: 1 tablespoon in 6 to 8 oz of hot or cold water, stirred, with any creamer or sweetener you like. RYZE describes the flavor as smooth and creamy with a nutty aroma.
- Four Sigmatic Original: 1 tablespoon in 8 oz of hot water. For iced coffee, dissolve it in a splash of hot water first, then add ice and cold water. Four Sigmatic describes it as a medium roast with notes of caramel. The coconut milk powder is part of the mix, so it’s already a little creamy.
Taste is personal, and we’re only passing on how each brand describes its own coffee. If you’re particular about flavor, buy a single bag before you commit to a subscription.
Price per serving
Prices below were checked on the brand sites on October 21, 2026. Both brands run frequent promotions.
| Price point | RYZE | Four Sigmatic Original |
|---|---|---|
| Single bag, list price | $45 / 30 servings (about $1.50 a cup) | $50 / 30 servings (about $1.67 a cup) |
| Subscription | From $0.90 per serving shown on the product page | $40 refills (about $1.33 a cup) after a discounted first order |
| First-order promo seen | Bundles from $0.82 per serving | $25 first bag with subscription (offer page) |
On these numbers, RYZE is cheaper per cup on a subscription. Four Sigmatic’s intro offer is the cheapest way to try one bag. Read the subscription terms before you check out with either brand. RYZE’s terms say subscriptions bill automatically every 30 days until you cancel, and you need to cancel at least 24 hours before the next shipment goes out. Four Sigmatic says you can pause, skip or cancel from your account.
Testing and transparency (COAs, label claims)
Here’s where an honest comparison has to slow down.
- Certificates of analysis (COAs): neither product page we reviewed linked a batch-specific COA. Four Sigmatic’s pages say “Tested for toxins” and “Tested For Mold & Toxins,” but they don’t post the results. If lab data matters to you, ask either brand’s support team for the latest COA before buying.
- Advertising claims: in September 2025, BBB National Programs’ National Advertising Division (NAD) said it had inquired into RYZE ads claiming the coffee provides “all-day energy, sharper focus, healthier digestion, [] better immune support” and “better sleep.” RYZE told NAD it had permanently discontinued those claims, so NAD didn’t review them on the merits.
- California Prop 65 notices: the California Attorney General’s database lists 60-day notices alleging lead in RYZE powdered mushroom drink mixes (filed Nov. 15, 2024) and in RYZE products (filed Nov. 14, 2025). It also lists a notice alleging lead in a Four Sigmatic plant-based protein powder (filed Jan. 23, 2026). A 60-day notice is an allegation from a private party, not a finding, and none of these notices names the specific coffee products compared here.
Both brands sell their coffees for daily routines, not as treatments. A mushroom coffee isn’t a substitute for medical care. Talk to your doctor first if you’re pregnant, nursing, take medication or are sensitive to caffeine.
Who should choose each
Choose RYZE if you…
- want the largest listed mushroom blend of the two (2,000 mg)
- like a six-mushroom mix that includes shiitake and king trumpet
- plan to subscribe and want the lower per-cup price
- might want a stronger option later (Dark Roast, about 90 mg of caffeine)
Choose Four Sigmatic if you…
- prefer a brand that states fruiting-body extracts with no mycelium
- want B12, a probiotic and coconut milk powder already in the scoop
- want a longer guarantee (60 days)
- would rather brew ground or whole-bean mushroom coffee at regular strength
If you’re building a better start to the day, the drink matters less than the routine around it. Our guides on building a morning routine and morning routine tips cover light, water and timing your first coffee.
